CM scans event venues, launches theme song

Chief minister N Biren Singh on Tuesday visited Moirang Khunou in Bishnupur district, where Sangai Ethnic Park is being developed and inspected the arrangements made for the upcoming Manipur Sangai Festival-2022 .
The CM was accompanied by Rajya Sabha MP and titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba, Manipur State Power Distribution Company Ltd chairman Tongbram Robindro, Loktak Development Authority chairman M Asnikumar, Moirang MLA Thongam Shanti, chief secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar, Manipur Police Housing Corporation Ltd managing director C Doungel and commissioner (Tourism) PK Jha.
Talking to the media on the sidelines of the inspection visit, CM Biren informed that various infrastructural development works are being initiated to generate income and to provide employment to youth of the state.
The development of Sangai Ethnic Park is a long-term investment to generate income and it will do away with the expenditure incurred in setting up the venue for the Sangai Festival every year, he added.
Biren further said that the tourist destinations being developed at various places across Manipur will help in earning regular income for the state and informed that the state government is in the process of establishing Tourist Police, which will be attached to the superintendent of police of every district.
Basic training of two to three months will be provided to the tourist police, who will wear a different uniform but will not bear arms.
He said that the tourist police will be used to guide tourists visiting the state; Later, the chief minister visited the on-going construction site of Manipur Olympian Park at Sangaithel and assessed progress of the construction work.
During the tour, he was accompanied by youth affairs and sports minister Govindas Konthoujam, Rajya Sabha MP and titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba, Lamsang MLA Sorokhaibam Rajen, principal secretary (YAS) SS Chhabra, director (YAS) T Phulen Meitei and other officials.
Earlier in the day, CM Biren launched the official theme song of Manipur Sangai Festival 2022, titled "Manipur" at the Chief Minister's Secretariat, here, on Tuesday.
The theme song is sung by renowned folk singer Mangka Mayanglambam and her team.
Addressing the media, CM Biren said Sangai Festival is a grand event, which could be promoted to the international level if wide publicity is given.
After a gap of two years, Manipur Sangai Festival this time is being planned for conduct in a bigger way, with various events scheduled at 13 venues across the state, he said.
Stating that a large cultural exchange programme would be organised at Makhel as a part of the festival, the CM informed that the people of Ahom and Nagaland would be invited to attend the festival.
Arrangements are also being made to organise events at Behiang and Khoupum and other places apart from the main venue at Sangai Ethnic Park, Moirang Khunou, the periphery of the habitat of Sangai.
In addition, efforts are being made to allow tourists to visit Kangkhui cave in Ukhrul district, he conveyed.
Biren then informed that apart from the Manipur Polo International Tournament, Sagol Kangjei game would also be held at Mamang Kangjeibung, Kangla, where players will wear the traditional attires as a historic event.
Appreciating Mangka and her team for coming up with the beautiful Sangai Festival theme song, Biren revealed that the video of the theme song would also be launched soon.
He further appealed to media persons to give wide publicity of the theme song in order to attract tourists.
The launch programme was also attended by Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba; Tourism Corporation of Manipur Ltd chairman Karam Shyam, commissioner (Tourism) PK Jha, director (Tourism) W Ibohal and folk singer Mangka Mayanglambam among others.
