Imphal, April 19 2023:
Students' Union of Kangleipak (SUK) contended that Manipur University of Culture (MUC) established by the Government of Manipur in 2015 to preserve and take Manipur's culture to the global level is in shambles today due to the apathetic attitude of the government.
In a release, SUK HRD secretary Gyanagar Nameirakpam said that the university has expanded with 11 departments but there are signs of discord within the varsity as it has no permanent campus of its own and the classes are conducted in a private school.
The varsity's 11 departments have 49 guest teachers but have not been paid their remunerations for the last 19 months.
Hence, they have stopped taking classes which has affected the academics calendar of students, it noted.
SUK continued that as the varsity follows semester system, the students shall have to appear exams every six months.
Thus, if the agitation continues then the syllabus may not be covered in time.
While appealing to the teachers to reconsider their decision not to conduct classes, SUK cautioned that in case the MUC authority and the government cannot resolve the issue, it will launch intense protest, along with the aggrieved students.
