YWO, Thang-ta institute celebrate foundation day

The Young Women Organisation (YWO) celebrated its 12th foundation day at the Preview Hall of Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS), Palace Compound, here, on Tuesday.
The celebration marked by presentation of gifts to young widows with the blessings to live their life courageously was attended by Wangkhei MLA Thangjam Arunkumar, YWO president Thangjam Shanti and Imphal East Adhyaksha P Bimola as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking at the event, MLA Th Arunkumar noted that Manipuri women have been playing crucial roles in the affairs of the society right from early times.
The women of Manipur possess unique qualities.
The story of their roles as brave women in the history of Manipur is never ending.
They have been playing pivotal roles in different issues of the state including demand for withdrawal of AFSPA, he recounted.
The MLA, however, expressed discontentment and regret over the many incidents of crimes meted out to the women community in contemporary society and lauded the role played by YWO in trying to solve issues besetting the yvomen folks.
Meanwhile, Laman Thang-Ta on Tuesday celebrated its 40th Foundation Day at Neinasang community hall, Tera Loukrakpam Leikai in Imphal West district.
Delivering the chief guest's address, Patsoi MLA Sapam Kunjakeswor said that large section of the society regards Thang-Ta as less important in-spite of its historical significance and popularity as a performing art.
He also lauded Laman Thang-Ta Lup for its dedicated effort towards safeguarding and promoting the traditional martial art form for the last 40 years.
The programme was attended by Sana Konung Angom Ningthou Angom Poireiton and Neinasang (Study Club) former president Rk Nataraj as the functional president and guest of honour respectively.
