Imphal, April 19 2023:
Manipur University of Culture Guest Faculty Association (MUGFA) organised a sit-in demonstration at MUC extension campus located at Canchipur on Wednesday in denunciation of non-releasing of remuneration for 19 months.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, MUGFA president B Gopiraman Sharma urged authorities concerned to release the pending remuneration for 49 guest faculties of the university and cautioned of launching more intense agitation including boycott of classes in case of ignoring its demand.
While pointing out that the teachers have been remaining silent and continuing to conduct classes without remuneration for a long period of time for the sake of students, he reasoned that Wednesday's protest was carried to make the authorities realise the ground reality and indifferent attitude towards the teachers.
How long should the teachers take classes without getting any remuneration, he questioned, while reiterating the demand for releasing the pending remuneration at the earliest.
The protesters also called for not demeaning the guest faculties, not to open new departments without solving the problems of the guest faculties, not to recruit new faculties, halt construction of infrastructure in the campus till release of the remuneration, to ensure running of the existing departments effectively before opening of foreign language course and other departments, administrator should resign if he doesn't know how to administer the university and to look into the matter by Manipur government and art and culture department.
