2009 BT Road case : Hearing on May 2

Session Court, Imphal East has fixed May 2 for further hearing the submission of defence counsel of Th Herojit in the July 2009 BT Road killings case.
The Court fixed the date after hearing the submissions of defense counsels of eight police personnel against whom chargesheets have been filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) .
It may be mentioned that the CBI had filed chargesheets against nine cops including Th Herojit following investigation into the July 23, 2009 BT road firing incidents in which Chungkham Sanjit and Thokchom Rabina were killed.
The nine cops against whom chargesheets have been filed are then Officer in Charge of City Police Station Y Munal, Hijam Devendro, Thounaojam Herojit, Ngangom Toyaima, Wahengbam Binoykumar, Thokchom Jagat, Md Imran Khan, Oinam Keshor and Makan Kanchung Chothi.
Following the July 23, 2009 incident, it was later alleged that Chungkham Sanjit was "unarmed" and the encounter by the police was allegedly staged.
On the other hand, Thokchom Rabina, who was pregnant at the time, was killed in an alleged crossfire.
The case was handed over to the CBI for investigation by the State Government after 'sequential photographs' of the incident were published in the Tehelka magazine.
Meanwhile, the Court began the final argument hearing on March 15 .
During the trial of the case, CBI had produced founder cum former Editor of Tehelka Magazine Tarun Tejpal and Managing Director of Tehelka Magazine Soma Chaudhury as prosecution witnesses.
In the Court, Tarun Tejpal had stated that the photographs published in the Tehelka Magazine about the July 23 incident are genuine and the photos were not edited or tampered with.
