"In an unprecedented development, the Tumit River, which serves a vital role in the lives of the villagers, has completely dried up due to inadequate rainfall this year.
Villagers from different localities have dug up pits in the river bed with JCBs to solve this problem and they are currently using the small quantity of water seeping out from the river bed for their needs", he shared.
He also went on to say that some villagers have stopped washing their clothes and taking baths in the midst of this unrelenting summer heat due to water scarcity.
Kh Donhra Chothe further told media persons that construction of two water reservoir tanks which began on October 15 of 2021 under the New Development Fund by the PHE Department are yet to be completed.
He appealed to the relevant authority to finish this construction work and lay down pipelines to provide the villagers with adequate water supply.
On top of this, he called for immediate and long-term relief and assistance for the villagers in the form of a tubewell or a handpump at the village.
It may be noted that Purum Chumbang village reportedly has a population of over 500 people.
