World Environment Day observed across state

As part of observance of World Environment Day, Kangpokpi Forest Division on Saturday organised a mass plantation programme near Toribari in Kanglatongbi-Kangpokpi Reserve Forest (KKRF).
During the plantation programme participated by Kangpokpi deputy commissioner Kengoo Zunngla, district level officials and civil society organisations, around 2,000 seedlings/saplings were planted.
Up to now this season, Kangpokpi Forest Division has planted 12,000 seedlings near Toribari area and plans to continue it till the plantation season.
Kangpokpi Divisional Forest officer Ganesh Nagarajan urged all district level officials, civil society organisations and the public to conserve the forest and environment.
While stating that protection of existing forests should be accorded top priority by all concerned, the officer also called upon all sections of the society to respect government notified forests and gave a clarion call to protect the forests of Kangpokpi for a better future of the next generation.
World Environment Day is observed every year on June 5 as declared by United Nations General Assembly in 1972 during the opening session of the Stockholm Conference on Human Environment.
First observed in 1974, the, annual programme is organised across the world to raise awareness on conservation and protection of the environment and importance of Mother Nature.
The theme for the 2022 World Environment Day is "Only One Earth" with Sweden as the host nation.
It calls for collaborative, transformative initiative to celebrate, protect and restore our planet, promoting sustainable living everywhere and acting on the climate crisis.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the launch of global environment summit.
CHURACHANDPUR: National Service Scheme (NSS) & National Cadet Corps (NCC) of Raybum College Gangpimual in association with Churachandpur Forest Department organised Tree Plantation Drive in connection with World Environment Day at Rayburn College campus on Saturday.
As part of the campaign, a solemn programme was organised with the participation of Churachandpur SP Shivanand Surve, Divisional Forest officer Esther Laltankim Serto, Forest Range officer Lunkhomang T Haokip, College principal, deans, faculties and students from various departments.
Speaking on the occasion, the dignitaries called upon the participants to contribute their mite towards protection of the world we live in, rejuvenate our only earth and take the initiative to promote afforestation.
They also pointed out theme of this year's environment day 'Only One Earth' signifies that all must come together to make efforts for making planet earth clean and green for generations to come.
A tree plantation programme was also conducted as part of the observance at the campus of the institute.
TAMENGLONG: A pre-World Environment Day observance programme was held on Saturday at Gadai Water Reservoir under the global theme "Only one Earth" with Tamenglong MLA Janghemlung Panmei as the chief guest.
Among others, Tamenglong SDO Rohit Anand, Tousem SDO Paul Nangsha and Tamenglong Forest Division RFO Kh Hitler Singh participated in the programme during which tree saplings were planted.
The event was organised by Rain forest Club Tamenglong in collaboration with District Administration, Tamenglong and Tamenglong Forest Division.
Large number of volunteers of Rainforest Club, Town Baptist Church, Tamenglong and public took part in the campaign.
About 500 seedlings/saplings were planted and around 10,000 distributed to the public at Forest IB Tamenglong for planting in their farm land and homesteads.
