World Environment Day observation : Importance of safeguarding environment highlighted

Ahead of the World Environment Day which is observed on June 5 annually, different organisations observed the day by conducting various activities across the State today to spread awareness on the importance of safeguarding the environment.
Alumni of Don Bosco School, Chingmeirong
The alumni of Don Bosco School, Chingmeirong 1986 batch organised a plantation drive in the school campus today in connection with World Environment Day observation.
The plantation drive was led by Father Lawrence, Vice-principal, Don Bosco School, Chingmeirong and was attended by 30 alumni.
Speaking at the occasion, an alumni and Executive Director of Human Rights Alert, Babloo Loitongbam while expressing concern over climate change and rising environmental degradation stated that it is high time that concerted efforts are made to fight against such alarming issues.

DMU
Dhanamanjuri University (DMU) in collaboration with Bharat Vikash Parishad (Manipur Prant) observed "World Environment Day 2022" on the theme "Only One Earth" today at the Botanical Garden of DM College of Science, DMU.
As a part of the observation, social service activities were carried out in different constituent colleges of Dhanamanjuri University, said a press release issued by the Registrar of DMU.
Also more than one hundred different types of trees were planted in the Botanical Garden of DM College of Science and premises of other constituent colleges of DMU under the leadership of Professor N Rajmuhon Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Dhanamanjuri University, added the press release.
AMSU IW District Committee
As a part of the 3 day mass tree plantation programme held in connection with the World Environment Day, All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) Langthabal and Yurembam Branch planted saplings in areas under its respective jurisdiction today.
The sapling plantation programme was held under the aegis of AMSU Imphal West District Committee, said a press release by the committee.
Members of AMSU Langthabal branch in association with the local club members and Meira Paibis planted saplings in different localities under the branch.
While members of AMSU Yurembam branch planted saplings in the campus of Recent Higher Secondary School, Sagoltongba today, added the release.
ICICI Foundation
ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth observed World Environment Day in collaboration with FIDAM Agro Farmer Producer Company Ltd at Yumnam Khunou village, Nambol block in Bishnupur district today.
The programme was attended by Ratankumar Sukham, Range Forest Officer, Department of Forest, Govt of Manipur; Ngangom Sobhana Devi, Pradhan, Keinou Gram Panchayat; O Hemolata Devi, Head Mistress, Yumnam Khunou Junior High School and L Ibopishak Singh, Chairman, Loyalakpa Sevayat Committee as the presidium members.
During the programme, the attendees were sensitized on the importance of saving the environment and its components to maintain the ecological balance.
The attendees also took pledge to conserve water, to conserve energy, to plant trees and to sensitize others.
Later saplings were also planted as a part of the programme.
League of Women, Manipur
The League of Women, Manipur organized a one day painting competition and tree plantation drive as a part of the World Environment Day observation.
The observation was organised in collaboration with Bhairodan Maxwell Hindi High School under the sponsorship of the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Govt of Manipur.
During a media briefing held in connection with the observation, Tanuja Khumukcham, secretary of League of Women said that the painting competition was held at Bhairodan Maxwell Hindi High School and the tree plantation drive at East bank of Imphal river.
She also expressed gratitude to Environment Minister Th Biswajit Singh, Director of Environment and Climate Change and Smart City Groups for their support in organising the event.
