Imphal, June 04 2022:
Youth's Forum for Protection of Human Rights (YFPHR) had strongly condemned the alleged 'inhumane and barbaric act of some private run de-addiction and rehabilitation centres' in the state claiming that many precious lives have been lost in such centres.
A release of the forum contended that there are reports of 'over-smart staff' of de-addiction centres threatening guardians and friends of drug users consequently compelling the parents keep their wards in the centres.
"We also learn that some drug peddlers, youth clubs, meira paibi and even police are engaged to forcefully make people enrol in these privately run centres just to make money out of it", alleged the Forum.
It said that such unlawful and irrational activities are-very unfortunate and need urgent attention for strict monitoring from the government.
It asserted that though the initiative for de addiction is praiseworthy, the inhumane conduct and misusing the ethics of the institution cannot be tolerated.
"We appeal to the government to strictly monitor day to day mushrooming de-addiction and rehabilitation centres in Manipur and cancel registration whichever is found inappropriate and take action as per the rule of law", said the release and appealed to the Director General of Police (DGP) to book the perpetrators and punish them according to the rule of law in the best interest of public.
