Shija saves life of labourer stuck in brick machine

Shija Hospital medical team saved the life of a labourer who accidentally fell in a machine with his right leg stuck till waist level at a brick farm located at Maklang on Monday.
According to a release of Shija hospital, on receipt of information about the incident a trauma team of the hospital immediately rushed to the site.
Upon initial onsite assessment by the team, the patient was found to be conscious and well oriented with normal BP.
However, he was in serious pain because of the injury.
Without wasting any time the trauma team provided the patient with intravenous fluid, followed by administering of mild sedation and analgesia.
Since the extent of the crush injury could not be assessed as the patient was stuck in the machine, a team meeting for plan of action was immediately conducted and decided to cut the machine with the help of metal cutter by the fire brigade team.
In the meantime the trauma team called for OT staffers, anaesthesia team, blood and other materials from Shija Hospital.
As the patient could not be extracted from the machine, despite the best efforts, the family members of the patient were counselled by the trauma team for a possible on site amputation.
Finally the patient was given procedural sedation and on site right femoral artery clamping and right leg amputation was performed.
The lifesaving surgery was performed by a team led by consultant general and laparoscopic surgeon Dr Jugindra S, who is also the director of Medical Services; consultant emergency physician Dr Sweta Khuraijam, plastic surgery resident Dr Sidarth Shah, emergency medicine resident Dr Ram Kalpesh, anaesthesiology resident Dr Parinitha, emergency nursing officers - Th Sunilkumar, S Dayananda and T Peter, OT technicians - Y Sarda and P Premkumar and other support staffers.
Blood transfusion was started after extracting the patient and the patient was finally transferred from incident site to Shija Hospitals for further management.
