Festival begins as state joins National Science Day

A 5-day state level science festival under the theme "Global Science for global Wellbeing" organised by Manipur Science & Technology Council (MASTEC) in connection with the celebration of National Science Day commenced from Tuesday at its Takyelpat complex, here.
Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, science and technology minister Th Biswajit announced that a building of the department of science and technology, having facilities for conducting major seminars and exhibitions, will be constructed during this financial year.
He further informed that the national science day is celebrated across the country on this day every year to mark the discovery of the Raman Effect by Indian physicist CV Raman in 1928.The day is also celebrated in Manipur under the aegis of MASTEC.
While pointing out the need to get acquainted with intellectual property right as it enables protection of any product of a particular region, minister Biswajit also stressed the need to identify the best 10 innovative models during the science model exhibition cum competition and encourage the students to perform their best.
Maintaining that science and technology is required in every held, the minister stated that the initiative chief minister N Biren to use 60 drones for spraying pesticides and herbicides is iso a blessing of the science and technology.
While stating that such an initiative will help increase agricultural yield of the farmers, he also urged authority concerned to complete the Shirui Lily project to ensure smooth flow of funds from NEC.
Presided over by Science and Technology commissioner M Yaiskul Meitei, the celebration was also attended by Dhanamanjuri University vice chancellor Prof N Rajmuhon Singh and MASTEC director Dr L Minaketan Singh as guests of honour.
A total of 83 models based on science and maths are being exhibited in the state level science festival.
Meanwhile, the national science day was celebrated under the joint aegis of department of education (s) and Samagra Shiksha Manipur at MSFDS auditorium, Palace Compound, here.
Education (S) director L Nandakumar Singh, additional director Bisheshwar Khumukcham and education (S/H) additional director Alfred Jamlallun Khaute were present as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Along with organising an oral science quiz contest, the event also had Prof N Rajmuhon Singh delivering a lecture on the theme 'Global Science for Global Wellbeing' .
