Two gang members nabbed with stolen vehicles

Imphal, February 28 2023:
Imphal West District Police Commando on Monday arrested two members of a vehicle theft gang with stolen vehicles.
The arrested gang members have been identified as Md Nawaj Sarif (36) s/o (L) Md Fasheuddin of Sangaiyumpham Cherapur Mayai Leikai, Thoubal district and Md Atao Rahman (22) s/o Md Ajmir of Lilong Turel Ahanbi Ubak Thong Makha.
The police team also seized one grey Honda Dio (MN01 AE 0889) and one numberless Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 (twin white & black) from their possession.
Briefing media persons on Tuesday, Imphal West SP Ksh Shivakanta informed that a commando team led by OC Inspector P Achouba carried out frisking-checking operation along Nambul River bank near Impact TV building around 1.50 pm on Monday.
During the operation, the team halted Md Nawaj Sarif, who was riding the grey Honda Dio for checking.
On questioning, Nawaj confessed to have stolen the vehicle from PWD vehicle parking area.
He further disclosed that he had been recently released from jail after getting caught stealing a Honda Activa from RIMS campus.
Consequently, the police team arrested Nawaz and seized the stolen vehicle around 2.30 pm.
He was then handed over to City PS along with seized vehicle for initiating necessary legal action.
The SP then informed that after receiving inputs about presence of a vehicle thief in Waithou Bazar area, another commando team rushed to the area and detained a suspicious looking person near Waithou bridge area.
The person identified himself as Md Atao Rahman.
On question, Md Atao disclosed that he worked with one Md Kausher alias Raja s/o Md Manal of Chinkgam Makha, in stealing a blue Honda Activa 6G and a Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 (twin white & black) from Thongju area on Monday.
The team then arrested Atao on the spot around 3.30 pm.
SP Shivakanta further informed that he along with the above team went to a fish farm in Lilong Ubak Thong Makha Idigah Road Nganglou Loukon and recovered the stolen Royal Enfield.
Both Atao and the seized vehicle have been handed over to Singjamei PS for further legal action, he conveyed.
Stating that no vehicle thieves will be spared, the SP said that action will be taken up to arrest the other gang members, adding that the efforts will continue until all of the involved people are arrested.
