National Science Day observed widely

Importance of science and its impact on day to day life was deliberated on the occasion of National Science Day observed today on the theme, 'Global Science for Global Wellbeing' .
The State Level National Science Day, 2023 was held today at the Palace Auditorium, MSFDS complex, Palace Compound organised by the Department of Education (S) Science Unit in association with Samagra Shiksha, Manipur.
Director of Education (S) L Nandakumar Singh, IAS; Additional Director of Education (S/V) Bisheshwar Khumukcham, MCS and Additional Director of Education (S/H) Alfred Jamlallun Khaute, MCS graced the programme as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
As a part of the programme, a written Science Quiz (preliminary) was held for the students with All India Radio Imphal Programme Executive, Heikrujam Devendra Singh as the quiz master.

Dhanamanjuri University (DMU) Vice-Chancellor Professor N Rajmuhon Singh spoke on the theme of the programme 'Global Science for Global Wellbeing' .
An interaction programme among the students and resource persons/experts was also held.
Speaking as the chief guest, L Nandakumar Singh elaborated on the significance and multiple benefits of science in day to day life.
Talking in context of the trying times of COVID-19 pandemic, he maintained that the difficult situation was stabilised owing to sincere efforts of scientists which led to the production of Covid vaccine thereby saving numerous precious lives.
Such scientific innovations and techniques have been promoting the well-being of mankind, he added.
Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt of India also organized the National Science Day today in the Conference Hall of IBSD, Imphal.
A press release by IBSD Imphal said that Professor Pulok K.Mukherjee, Director of IBSD highlighted about the importance of National science day celebration and he also mentioned that the program was organized to inspire and motivate research scholars and students in the field of science and to increase awareness in Science and Technology and its impact on human lives.
Two eminent scientists namely Professor Marco Leonti, Associate Professor, Department of Biomedical Sciences, University of Cagliari, Cittadella Univesitaria, Italy and Professor Alexander N.Shikov, Professor, Department of the Technology of Pharmaceutical Formulations, St.
Petersberg State Chemical Pharmaceutical University, Russia attended the programme as the resource persons.
Professor Marco Leonti shared his experiences on the different healing practices and herbal medicines used in Mexico.
He also highlighted the importance of proper documentation, validation and publication of the traditional medicines while Professor Alexander N.Shikov, elaborated on the different plants and herbal formulations with particular emphasis on the medicinal plants used for the treatment of respiratory diseases in Russia.
The programme was attended by more than 150 participants including scientists, research scholars and staff of IBSD.
Meanwhile, former Director of Science and Technology, Dr S Priyokumar expressed that the State will face difficulty while carrying out agricultural activities relying on seasonal rain owing to deteriorating climatic condition.
He was speaking at the National Science Day observation held at farmers' convention hall of the Green Foundation, Kwakeithel today.
He also highlighted the State will be impacted socially as well as economically if timely remedial measures are not taken up to tackle up climate change issues such as water scarcity etc.
During the occasion, Dr N Iboton, former Dean of CAU who has been conferred with Recognition Award by the Indian Phytopathological Society, Mysore University was felicitated.
Science Forum, Manipur College too organised National Science Day observation at the college campus located at Singjamei graced by Principal Dr W Shambhunath; Manipur College Teachers Association president Dr S Banamali Devi and Head of Botany Department Dr L Inakhunbi Devi as the presidium members.
