War on Drugs: SP Dr Ibomcha leading from front

Imphal, June 21 2022: 'War on Drug' mission being initiated by N Biren Singh led BJP government to save the state and the society from the drugs menace is being appreciated by public and the government has started encouraging officers and police personnel who performed significantly under the mission by presenting awards and cash rewards.

The People's Chronicle profiles officers and personnel who performed significantly under the mission one by one to highlight their roles and achievements to public.

At first, the daily takes up achievements of former SPs of Imphal West, Thoubal and Tengnoupal districts and presently 1st MR CO Dr Sarangthem Ibomcha Singh who has been conferred Chief Minister's 'War on Drug' trophy twice in the year 2020-21 and 2021-22.Since the year 2017 till his tenure as SP of Imphal West district, Dr S Ibomcha was at the forefront of seizing a total of 45,14,621 pieces of WY tablets, 1.124 kg WY in powder form and 1816.6348kg of heroin brown sugar.

He seized 1808.9208 kg of heroin brown sugar, 43,89,948 WY tablets and 1.15 kg WY in powder form at once while he was the SP Thoubal.

From the year 2017 till December, 2021, he seized 7.9141 kg of heroin and the most significant being seizure of 5.243 kg of heroin at once while he was the SP of Tengnoupal district.

Contraband drugs seized during his tenure as SP of different districts in four years include 54.762 kg of opium, 60,733 SP capsules, 689 litres of morphinated liquid, 466 N-10 tablets, 3,08,000 alprazolam 0.5 gm, 7.156 cough syrup, 29,000 Sidophredin tablets, 500 hello nitra tablets, 295 ketamine hydrochloride injection bottles, 720 simplex C plus, capsules, 17 buprenorphine tablets, 84 fluza tablets and 336 other tablets used as contraband drugs.

During his tenure as the SP Thoubal, Dr Ibomcha raided six drug laboratories manufacturing brown sugar and seized chemical, equipment and arrested those running the illegal laboratories.

Apart from this, he also managed to recover more than 40 lakh WY tablets weighing around 400 kg round being carried in a Tata 209 DI vehicle and arrested eight people involved in the case from near a mobile tower at Phoudel Keirembi Mathak Leikai in August, 2019.One significant achievement of Dr S Ibomcha Singh while he was the SP Thoubal was busting of a foreign liquor re-packaging unit thereby exposing production of illicit foreign liquor in the state.

Mention may be made that chief minister N Biren encouraged Tengnoupal and Thoubal districts police for their significant achievements under 'War on Drug' mission few days back and rewarded SPs of Tengnoupal and Thoubal districts Rs 7 lakh and Rs 8 lakh respectively.

Under 'War on Drug 2.0', Tengnoupal district police seized drugs worth around Rs 127 crore while Thoubal district police busted a brown sugar manufacturing factory and recovered 22.5 kg of brown sugar and materials used in the factory.
