War memorial rededicated

The War Memorial monument at Kanglatongbi along National Highway-2 was rededicated today with a simple ceremony attended by Lt Gen Gautam Moorthy ,VSM, Director General Ordnance services and Senior Col Comdt, AOC , Brig G R Singh, Brig OS , HQ 3 Corps and other officers of 57 Mtn Division.
"Standing tall in Khengjang village of Kanglatongbi area, Sadar Hills under Senapati district, the War Memorial is mute testimony to the fighting prowess of the Army Ordnance Corps, otherwise a logistical back up organisation .
During the Second World War (1942-1945), when the desperate marauding Japanese forces were trying to open there line of communication to Imphal, a small but determined detachment of the 221 Advance ordnance depot put a stiff resistance stalling the desperate bayonet charges and the advance of Japanese forces till reinforcement arrived and turn the tide against Japanese in 1944 .
This modest memorial was constructed in memory of the exemplary courage, bravery and supreme sacrifice made by the ordnance personnel.
The senior officers of the Army also visited the nearby Kanglatongbi the children orphanage and interacted with the children and staff to strengthen the bonds between the Army and the local population," said the press note of the Defence Wing today.
