War Memorial monument at Kanglatongbi Re-dedicated

The War Memorial monument at Kanglatongbi along NH-2 was re-dedicated today with a simple ceremony attended by Director General (Ordnance services) Lt Gen Gautam Moorthy and Senior Col Comdt (AOC) Brig GR Singh and other officers of 57 Mtn Division.
Standing tall in Khengjang village of Kanglatongbi area, Sadar Hills, the War memorial is mute testimony to the fighting testimony to the fighting prowess of the Army Ordnance Corps, otherwise a logistical back up organisation, informed a PIB (DW) release.
During the second World war (1942-45), when the desperate marauding Japanese forces were trying to open their line of communication to Imphal, a small but determined detachment of the 221 Advance ordnance depot put a stiff resistance stalling the desperate bayonet charges and the advance of Japanese forces till reinforcement arrived and turn the tide against Japanese in 1944 .
This modest memorial was constructed in memory of the exemplary courage, bravery and supreme sacrifice made by the ordnance personnel, said the release while informing that the senior officers of the Army also visited the near by Kanglatongbi children orphanage centre and interacted with the children and staff to strengthen the bonds between the Army and the local population.
