Imphal, March 13 2013:
The Working Group of Meira Paibi Movement in Manipur has announced its decision to suspend the anti-drug agitation for some time.
Addressing media persons today at Manipur Press Club, Convenor of Working Group of Meira Paibi Movement in Manipur, L Memchoubi said the decision to suspend the anti-drug agitation in the State was reached following the assurance given by the Chief Minister to representatives of Working Group of Meira Paibi Movement in Manipur during a meeting held yesterday at the CM's bungalow.
The CM had reportedly assured the representatives that the demands raised by the Working Group of Meira Paibi Movement in Manipur including fitting legal punishment against drugs smugglers, would be fulfilled soon.
The Working Group decided to respect the words of the CM and suspend the agitation for a while, Memchoubi said.
However, Memchoubi avowed that the Working Group would resort to various forms of intense agitation if the Government fails to keep its assurance.
The Working Group demanded equal punishment to all those individuals arrested in recent drug smuggling cases.
