Inclusion of Thang-ta in school syllabus stressed

Titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba has stressed on the need to include Thang-ta in school syllabus so as to impart the knowledge and awareness of the art form among the coming generation.
Leishemba Sanajaoba was speaking as the chief guest of the 10th foundation day of Kanglei Indigenous Martial Arts and Cultural Society at KIMACS office Palace Compound.
Emphasising the importance of Thangta, Sanajaoba said Manipur's history, civilisation, and independence were inextricably linked with Thang-ta.
He asserted that the spirit of nationalism and and ethical discipline would be imbibed among the youths when they were introduced to the Thang-ta art form while also drawing the attention of the concerned authority to give more weightage to candidates with Thang-ta degree in job recruitment.
Sanajaoba also believed that women can defend themselves against many crimes like rape, molestation etc if they have the knowledge of the martial art besides preventing the frequent occurrence of crime against women.
The celebration programme was also graced among others by President of KIMACS Nodiya Mangang and Director of Hueyen Lallong Manipur Thang-ta Cultural Association, G Gourakishore Sharma as the president and guest of honour respectively.
During the foundation celebration today, certificates were also given to Thang-ta teachers and students of a Thang-ta training course held in January.
