AR busts explosive smuggling racket

Imphal, March 08 2013:
27 Sector Assam Rifles under Red Shield Division has busted a smuggling racket of explosives into Manipur that was intended to be used against the security forces, according to PIB-Defence Wing.
"After achieving great success on March 6 by recovering huge quantities of explosives, arms and ammunition, 27 Sector continued to excel in achieving further operational successes.
The apprehended individuals were personally interrogated by Brigadier Advitya Madan, Commander 27 Sector which revealed information of very sensitive nature.
It came to light that explosive items are being purchased from civilian construction organizations in Mizoram and are smuggled into Manipur and Myanmar where it is further distributed to militant groups for use against the security forces," the Defence Wing said.
A swift operation based on the information by columns of 38 Assam Rifles and 39 Assam Rifles was launched which led to apprehension of 43 years old Gin Zamuan Simte, s/o Jamchinlam, r/o C Tuiveljang village of Churachandpur district of Manipur with 450 detonators, 165 gelatin sticks, 50 metres of safety fuse and two 12 bore guns were recovered from his possession.
Further operations are on to nab other persons involved in the racket.
The apprehended person alongwith recoveries were later handed over to Imphal West Police Station, the PIB-Defence Wing claimed.
