Political dialogue with SoO groups likely soon

Imphal, March 08 2013:
The proposed political dialogue between the Government of India, Government of Manipur and Kuki rebel groups under SoO pact which has been deferred on more than one occasion because of the elections in three Northeastern States is likely to be set into motion very soon.
In the meantime, after the NPF-led DAN has come back to power in Nagaland, the Government of Nagaland has geared up to exert more pressure on New Delhi to bring the protracted Indo-Naga peace talk to an amicable solution.
A spokesman of UPF, one of the two conglomerates of Kuki armed groups under SoO pact, told The Sangai Express that the proposed political dialogue was put off repeatedly because of the Assembly elections in Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya.
The proposed political dialogue was kept at bay as AICC leaders were busy canvassing for Congress party in the three States.
As the elections of the three States are now over, UPF would urge the Government of India to initiate political dialogue.
He speculated that the political dialogue would be put into full gear by April.
On the other hand, one senior functionary of the UNC informed The Sangai Express that one primary agenda of the newly elected DAN Government of Nagaland is securing a solution to the Indo-Naga issue.
It was the Naga people's yearning for solution to the vexed Naga issue which re-elected Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) to power and this fact is very clear to NPF which is leading the coalition.
It can be expected that DAN would very soon exert strong political pressure on New Delhi to bring the Indo-Naga peace talk to a conclusion at the earliest, said the UNC leader.
He clarified that there is no question of the DAN Government, Naga Hoho and the UNC working separately.
In the Naga national interest, Naga Hoho supported DAN.
Just like DAN carries people's mandate, UNC too is mandated by people.
As such, there is no question of the two bodies walking on divergent paths.
After DAN has been re-elected to power in Nagaland, UNC delegates would start visiting Chandel, Tamenglong, Ukhrul and Senapati so as to keep its demand for alternative arrangement alive, added the UNC functionary.
