'Tourism Dept to be corporatized'

With tourism industry increasingly playing an important role in augmenting the economy of a state or country, the state government is discussing to convert the Tourism Department into Manipur Tourism Development Corporation, said Parliamentary Secretary of Tourism M Prithviraj today at the inaugural function of Classic Hospitality Training Institute at Babina Diagnostic Centre Building, RIMS Road.
Speaking as Chief Guest of the function, Prithviraj said that the proposal of converting Tourism Department into a Corporation has been discussed with the Chief Minister.
Necessary process for the new development will begin very soon.
Since the Corporation will work on Public Private Partnership (PPP) model, there will be space for energetic individuals and firms in the field of tourism development to promote tourism industry in Manipur, Prithviraj observed.
He further said that Manipur has its own tradition of hospitality and the hospitality industry is a suitable industry for the youths of the state.
He also stressed the need for opening career counselling centres in schools and colleges to ensure better future of the students.
Project Director of Manipur Skill Development Society, Hrishikesh, who was also present on the occasion, said that the newly inaugurated training institute will help the educated unemployed youths of the state to a great extent.
Director of Education (A), H Deleep presided over the function.
Babina Healthcare and Hospitality Industry Private Limited will be running the training institute which would offer a three-month short term course to beginners.
On completion of the short term course, the institute will offer One year Diploma Courses in Front Office Operation, Food and Beverage Service and Housekeeping Operation and Services.
