Imphal, November 18 2014:
Expressing serious concern over the victimisation of 6 girl students at the premises of CJM Court Thoubal by the cops while controlling the agitated mob protesting against the rape and murder of Thiyam Bindyarani Devi, the Women Action for Development (WAD) termed the brutal treatment of agitating girls as an act of injustice.
Such incidents are routine in the state which is very unfortunate and highly condemnable, said WAD in a press statement, while elaborating that special mob controlling tactics and trainings are highly essential for the cops to tame the mobs so that less damage is done to the public.
The negligence of the Home department and prolonged trials of the convicts led to distrust of the system.
People demand exemplary module of delivering justice so that such crimes do not recur.
Once the example is set, then the rate of crimes against women and children will be decreased.
Implementation of special fast track courts to trial for crimes against women and children and thorough investigative protocols by the investigating agencies within a limited time frame can serve for delivering proper justice.
Negligence from all dimensions led to intensify the rate of crimes in the state.
Mention may be made that the culprit who raped and murdered one disabled minor girl named Laishram Sumila @ Echan (10) of Nungoo Chandonpokpi Leikai is still yet to be identified and arrested as the incident occurred during the time of Republic Day where the police are busy taking up security measures thus unable to attend the case.
It is the mark of state negligence and less concerns over human values.
Women Action for Development also expressed serious concerns over the bailout demanded by the accused rapist S.N Ngoupuni over the illness of dementia.
