3 WW II bombs found, IED detected

Imphal, February 24 2015:
Three unexploded World War II bombs were found at Heirok Part-II in Thoubal district on Tuesday.
Reports said the war-time bombs were discovered while clearing a hill surface for the construction of a road from Heirok Part-II Chingdonpok to Khongjom.
A team from Thoubal Police Station led by its SDPO Shankardev retrieved the bombs and later defused them in an open field.
Meanwhile, a sniffer dog helped troops of 45 Assam Rifles in detecting a powerful IED planted by suspected rebels on a culvert along the Imphal-Ukhrul road close to Shajiwa Jail in Imphal East district.
The IED which was later defused by bomb experts of the Assam Rifles.
It weighted around 2.5 kg, said a police source.
He said the IED could have been planted by rebels with an intention to target security forces.
The IED was detected around 6.30 am.
The Assam Rifles personnel blocked traffic till around 9.45 am until the bomb experts defused it safely.
