Imphal, February 24 2015:
Denouncing the State Government's decision to set up a private university instead of paying any attention towards infrastructure development of Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Regional Campus Manipur (IGNTU-RCM), students of the university took out protest rally at Imphal today.
Talking to media persons by the sideline of the agitation, IGNTU-RCM Students' Union vice-president Homkholen Haokip expressed keen desire for the State Government to look into the shortages and requirements of the university already established rather than putting the spotlight on a new university.
He demanded the State Government to repair the road connecting IGNTU-RCM campus of Makhan with Imphal-Dimapur highway and also to ensure sufficient power and water supply to the campus.
He also urged the State Government to appoint a full time Director, upgrade departments and implementation of the reservation policy in letter and spirit.
Other demands raised by the students' union include appointment of full time faculty members in place of the existing guest faculty members of Tribal Study and Sociology Departments.
Notably, the State Government has been working hard to get the Sangai National University Bill passed in the ensuing Assembly session.
