Senapati, February 24 2015:
Calling upon the department concerned and contractors executing black-topping works along NH-2 especially between Maram and Mao-gate stretch, the Mao Students' Union (MSU) has issued a statement for strict maintenance of quality works, reports The Hornbill Express.
The student body that has been campaigning for improvement of the said highway stated that NH-2 as the main lifeline of the State must be developed with proper and sincere maintenance by any implementing agency or Government department.
More than 400 to 500 trucks have been passing through the said highway on a daily basis and as such the for maintaining this stretch is very important, it stated.
Seeking the support of the public, MSU warned that it will not allow any anti-social elements or groups to disturb the ongoing construction works of Maram to Mao-gate as it is for the people of the State.
It may be noted that, after much delay for years, due to legal tussle between the work agency and State Government, the construction works only resumed recently.
While some stretch between Senapati and Maram has been completed, most portions of Maram to Mao-gate areas are yet to be completed.
Certain areas of Makhan Tabio, Chakumai and Tadubi stretches have been in deplorable conditions for many years now.
With the PWD taking charge in 2010 from BRO, the construction works were delayed until 2013 .
Civil bodies like SDSA and Maram Students in the past have been strongly batting for the maintenance of good quality works and improvement of NH-2 .
