5 CSOs continues series of protests

Imphal, September 20 2026: The 5 CSOs' series of protests demonstrations continued at Wangkhei Durga Puja Lampak, Imphal today.

COHR vice chairman S Leirangton, MSF vice president T Rojit, AMAWOVA advisor Ch Usharani, PMLPAM president Memcha and 5 CSOs convenor S Sanjoy attended the sit-in protest demonstration.

During the sit-in, protesters urged the Government of India and the Government of Manipur to take up steps to curb violence and restore peace and normalcy.

The protesters urged the State Government to put pressure on the Centre to update the National Register of Citizens (NRC) with 1951 as the base-year before census, and allow return and rehabilitation of internally displaced persons staying in relief camps.

The protesters also denounced the recently concluded Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, and demanded the Government to remove the Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Manipur.

The 5 CSOs include All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO), Poi- rei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur (PLM- PAM), All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA), Committee on Human Rights (COHR) and Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) .

The sit-in was organised by Wangkhei Durga Puja Lampak Women's Welfare Organisation in association with Women's Social Welfare Association Wangkhei Angom Leikai, Nupi Khunnai Chaokhat Kanglup Ningthem Pukhrimapal, Wangkhei Thangapatmapal Mayai Leikai Women's Development Association, Wanghei Keithel Ashangbi Apunba Lup Nupimarup and several other local civil bodies.
