Imphal, February 24 2015:
Takyel United Progressive Organisation along with Macha Ibemma Nupi and Land Protection Committee jointly staged a sit-in-protest today at Takyel TUPO ground against any attempt by the State Government to acquire any more portion of Takyel Pat.
Speaking to media persons at the sidelines of the protest, TUPO president Ch Dewan Singh said Takyel Pat, with its 100 acres land, has been, since 1964, utilised for agricultural purposes.
With the State Government encroaching upon the said land for establishing offices and other buildings, a mere 36 acres are left to the farmers.
The State Government designs to acquire the remaining 36 acres for establishment of Bio Resources and Sustenable Development, Manitron and Central Institute of Plastic Engineering Technology, Dewan added.
Demanding the State Government to withdraw its acquisition plan, the protestors warned of more severe protests in hand with the general public in case of failure.
Mention may be made, the land area which have been marked for the construction of Bio Resources and Sustenable Development, Manitron, houses a Panchayat Ghar and a Blind Home.
