Ukhrul, September 20 2026: The Kuki CSO Working Committee of Kamjong district has suspended its counter economic blockade along National Highway-202 (NH-202), with immediate effect.

According to a statement issued by the committee, Kuki civil society organisations (CSOs) had earlier served a 36-hour ultimatum to the district administration and the Government of Manipur to address the grievances of the Kuki population living in the district.

Following the alleged failure of the authorities to address the issues, an economic blockade was imposed from 12 noon on September 16 .

After three days of the blockade, the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of Kamjong district reached out to the CSO Working Committee and acknowledged the hardships and issues raised by the committee, the statement said.

The district authorities assured the committee that the Government would facilitate the proper delivery and receipt of essential food supplies, stating that this was the maximum feasible action that could be taken from their end at the present juncture.

Following the assurance from the district administration, the CSO Working Committee suspended the counter economic blockade with effect from 12 noon today, the statement said.

However, the committee warned that if the district administration fails to fulfil its assurances, it would be compelled to reimpose a "significantly more stringent" economic blockade.
