Crimes against women decried

Imphal, November 11 2014: Even though numerous cases of crimes against women happened during the last 5 years, only 2 or 3 cases have been settled so far while others are kept pending.

This was stated by L.Sumatibala, secretary of All Manipur Nupi Marup in a press statement issued at Imphal today.

Citing recent cases of rapes and murders against girls in Manipur, the statement said 'on the very day of observance of national legal services day throughout the state, a girl student namely Thiyam Bidiarani of Wangbal Heirithong was killed after rape by her neighbor cousin.

On the previous day on November 8, a 17 year old dumb girl was also reportedly raped, and on November 5 last, an 8-year old girl from Tharoijam in Imphal west was raped and murdered by a local man, said the release.

Stressing the need for modification of the governance to enable the society to prevent such crimes against women, the All Manipur Nupi Marup appealed to all people to fight against crimes against women in the state.
