Indefinite bandh along Imphal-Ukhrul road imposed

Imphal, November 11 2014:
Infuriated at the failure of the government to meet its five demands including displacement of residential houses built 'illegally' by villagers of Seilem village inside the territory of Seijang village; restriction against burial of dead body in Seijang village by people of the neighboring village, Seijang Development Committee and locals of the village have imposed indefinite bandh along Imphal-Ukhrul road from today.
Speaking to newspersons, NG Bhimon, chairman of Seijang Development Committee reiterated that the government had already provided assurance to the committee that its five demands would be met at the earliest but any of the demands has not been fulfilled till date.

The five demands put up by the committee are dismantling of residential houses built by villagers of Seilem village inside the territory of Seijang village; FIR against those people of Seilem village who buried dead body in the areas of Seijang village despite CrPc 144 imposition; constitution of an enquiry into the matter; withdrawal of VDF and 5th IRB personnel from the village and opening of an IRB post somewhere in a place bordering the two villages.
He stated that the assurance to the demands was provided by the government during a meeting which was attended by Chief Minister O Ibobi; Deputy CM Gaikhangam who is also the Home Minister; DGP Shahid Ahmed; Khsetrimayum Biren, MLA Lamlai Constituency; N Biren, MLA Heingang Constituency; RK Anand, MLA Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Constituency; K Ranjit, MLA Sugnu Constituency and top police officers.
He contended that police have dismantled seven houses only out of the total 36 built by people of Seilam village in areas under Seijang village.
Meanwhile, bandh supporters caused damage to nine vehicles including a passenger bus, gypsy, Nano car and an Alto Carplying along Imphal-Ukhrul road in defiance of the bandh call.
Later today at around 7 pm, women folks of Seijang village took out a torch rally in Seijang area in support of the bandh.
