Malamphai village chief Thangrengsong alias Thangboi Kom and his family were reportedly targeted by some armed persons with an intention to kill them but the family somehow escaped the murder attempt.
Malamphai village is located under Samulamlan TD Block of Churachandpur district though it falls under the jurisdiction of Kumbi police station.
According to a statement of the Malamphai Village Authority, some armed persons led by Thangboi's cousin Songboi Kom (31) opened fire, broke down the front door and barged into Thangboi's house and tried to kill Thangboi and all his family members at around 10.30 pm of November 2 .
The assault wounded the chief's younger brother and mother and they are currently undergoing treatment in a hospital.
On hearing cries and shoutings of the family, people of the neighbourhood rushed in prompting Songboi and his accomplices to flee.
Songboi and his team fled but they also fired several rounds of shots before leaving the scene.
The village authority has also condemned the attack in the strongest term.
It is said that Songboi attacked his cousin because he was craving for the post of village chief.
The village authority also appealed to all 'outsiders' not to interfere in the internal matters of the village.
