Accused confesses before Court, many protest crimes against women

Whereas the accused in the rape and murder case of Bidyarani was produced before a Court today, students staged protest demonstrations at different places demanding death penalty for all the culprits involved in rape and murder cases of girl students.
The students strongly condemned the rapes and murders of a Class XII student of Chaoyaima Higher Secondary School, a minor girl reading in Class I at Tharoijam and the rape of a BSc Nursing student.
Meanwhile, Bidyarani's corpse has been claimed by the family members today.
The accused was produced before the Court of CJM Thoubal and he confessed before the Court that he murdered the girl.
The Court then remanded him to police custody till November 17.He has been charged under IPC Sections 376 (rape) and 302 (murder) .

A protest demonstration was staged at Wangbal Khongnangkhong under the aegis of the JAC constituted against the rape and murder of the girl.
Students of different schools/colleges located in Thoubal district also staged protest demonstrations within their school/college campuses or at the school/college gates.
The students were from Little Star Higher Secondary School, Paradise English School, Evergreen Flower School, Fancier Abiram Hr Sec School, Vision Creative Hr Sec School, Chaoyaima Hr Sec School, Somendrosana Royal Academy and Brilliant Academy.
Similar protest demonstrations were staged by students of Kakching Khunou Govt High School, Emmanuel Mission School, Kakching Khunou Makha High School, Victoria High School, Wairi Junior High School, PR English School, Kakching Public School, Kakching Hr Sec School, Martin Grammar School, Makha Leikai High School, Wangjing Lamding Model High School, Slopeland Public School, Khongjom Standard School, Waikhom Mani Girls' College and Thoubal College.
Sit-in protest was also staged at CAMPS English School, Luwangsangbam while in Bishnupur district sit-in protest was staged at Nambol Hr Sec School, Oinam Thambal Marik, Ch Dorendro Memorial Eng School, Thoibi Quality Eng School, Diligent Public school, Loyalam PS, Bethel Eng School, Special Regular school.
The protest was also organised at Brighter Nambol, Utlou HS, Herbert school, Mem Hr Sec School, Zenith Academy, Regular School in Imphal West district.
Speaking by the sideline of the protest demonstration, JAC chairman H Doren said they decided to claim Bidyarani's body in view of her family's plight and the Government's assurance to award befitting punishment to the culprit.
Students of Nirmalabas School staged a protest demonstration within their school campus using placards which read "Save girl child, save generations' .
The young students said that all cases of rape and murder of girls are bestial and deserve outright condemnation.
When there are no girls, there would not be any future generations.
They maintained that all those involved in rape and murder of girls should be awarded death penalty.
Imprisonment for some years is not enough for rapists and murderers.
Students of Cambridge English School staged a similar protest demonstration within their school campus.
Students of DM College of Arts and DM College of Commerce too staged a protest demonstration against rape and murder of girl students.
The protesters also took out a protest rally within the college campus and shouted slogans demanding death penalty for all rapists.
DM College of Arts Students' Union general secretary Maibam Suresh said that the Government's failure to award befitting and prompt punishment to criminals has been indirectly contributing to the growing violence against women in Manipur.
Students of Children's Model Academy, Thanga also staged a protest demonstration within their school campus on the same issue.
They used placards which read "Save minor students", "Kill the rapists", "We condemn rape and murder" etc.
On the other hand, Longjam Devadas (20) s/o L Surchandra was also produced before the Court of CJM Thoubal and he was remanded to judicial custody for 15 days.
L Devadas allegedly attempted to rape a newly married woman at Wangbal Lamboithong in the night of November 7 before he was rounded up people of the neighbourhood and handed over to police.
