Imphal, October 10 2021:
The play being woven by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is as clear as daylight to the people.
Apart from the fact that no MLA from Congress is planning to join BJP, the latter's mindset of coveting the MLAs of other parties despite having its own MLAs is a clear sign of its impending defeat in the upcoming elections, claimed Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president N Loken.
Addressing a press meet at Congress Bha-wan here Sunday, Loken said that several Congress MLAs who had previously joined BJP have slowly been backstabbed by the latter.
As such, it is questionable which MLA from Congress will willingly join BJP.
Moreover, BJP's covetous nature towards the MLAs of Congress is a clear indicator of BJP's realisation of biting the dust in the upcoming polls.
Thus, BJP's intricate play is out in the open for all to see, he said, while adding that although the polls are five months away, people already know what will happen to BJP by December.
Loken then said that although the defection of some fellow Congress members to BJP was saddening, the party has not been affected in anyway.
It is the nature of businessmen to be self-interested and seek profits elsewhere.
However, they only suffer losses at the end.
The defectors are bound to regret their betrayal to the party one day or the other, he maintained.
Joining the media briefing, MPCC working president I Hemochandra said that BJP National president JP Nadda failed to make any new waves during his recent visit to the state, but only placed whatever blames they could find on the opposition, which is strange.
It is questionable what hope BJP wants to give with the visit of the national president, considering he (National president) did not address any of the key issues plaguing the state.
"It is bizarre for BJP to claim they have taken up all developmental works during the 4 and half years.
JP Nadda claimed that under the BJP government, the law and order situation, water and electricity supply and hill-valley relations have improved in the state, ushering peace and harmony.
However, Congress was the one which ushered in peace during its 15-year rule.
Manipur was included in the railway map of India by the then UPA government in 2007," he added.
Hemochandra continued: "It was claimed that Rs 500 were deposited in the Jan Dhan accounts of 10 lakh beneficiaries in the state during the pandemic.
However, it was found only Rs 198 had been deposited.
Thus, the people all know the truth behind the statements of the BJP national president.
Meanwhile, it is claimed that around 1.56 beneficiaries were provided gas connections under the Ujjwala scheme.
However, the beneficiaries are having difficulties while trying to refill the gas cylinders.
Hence, the claim does not hold any meaning considering the result.
Additionally, it is claimed that BJP has constructed 2.6 lakh toilets in the state, while Congress had constructed around 83.3 percent of the toilets.
Manipur has no space to house the 2.6 lakh toilets which were claimed as constructed by the BJP".
The working president then slammed Nadda for complete avoidance of addressing the key issues of the state, while blatantly claiming credits for projects which were taken up Congress.
One of the key issues presently plaguing the state is the death of Athuan Abonmai, which is closely related to the law and order situation of the state.
Commenting on the misunderstanding surrounding the ADC Bill due to improper handling, Hemochandra questioned BJP's responsibility and its continued silence on the matter.
BJP lacks vision as it only continues to claim the credits of works undertaken by Congress, he said and urged the people not to trust BJP, but instead give opportunity to Congress to serve the people again.
Meanwhile, MPCC working president MLA K Meghachandra commented on the 3 per cent charge imposed by Finance Department while processing files.
As such, he demanded BJP to clarify when this direct charging of 3 percent by Finance Department came about under which government.
BJP's claim of ending corruption since its ascend to power is completely baseless, he maintained.
