Hours after a violent clash ensued between workers and supporters of NPP and BJP last night, a Singjamei Block office of the NPP was opened amid tight security today at Singjamei Parking while at the same time a rally of the rival BJP candidate was also staged amid tight security.
Things took an ugly turn last night when workers of the NPP and BJP clashed at Singjamei and amid the stone pelting between the two sides, a number of people were injured, said reports reaching the office of The Sangai Express.
A strong police force was rushed in last night forcing the cops to use tear gas shells to disperse the two opposing sides.

The bad blood between the two feuding sides stretched on to this morning too and there was a tense stand off from about 7 am today forcing the police to maintain strict vigil at Singjamei Thongam Leikai and Singjamei Parking areas.
Amid the tense situation, a large number of BJP workers and supporters staged a rally today around Thongam Leikai.
At about the same time, a large number of NPP workers and supporters came out to attend the opening of a block office of the party, followed by a programme later.
Speaking at the office opening function of the NPP, Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar urged the party's workers to ensure that no untoward incidents happen in connection with the coming Assembly election.
Today's voters are all educated and hence one should realise that violence cannot win elections, said the Deputy Chief Minister.
Working president of the NPP L Jayantakumar said that it is the voters who will ultimately decide who is sent to represent the people in the Assembly.
All the different political parties are founded on principles and ideologies and everyone should respect the one who ultimately receives the mandate of the people, said Jayantakumar.
