Workshop on sanitation and disease control held

A two-day workshop on "Sanitation Management and Disease Control" organized by Senapati District Women Association (SDWA) concluded at the SDWA conference hall, Senapati DHQ today.
The workshop was sponsored by Tribal Research Institute, Manipur.
Deputy Commissioner P.K Jha, IAS, was the Chief Guest and M L Markson, President of Naga People Organization (NPO) presided over the inaugural function of the workshop yesterday.
Social workers, political leaders, district frontal organizations, the unit women's tribe Presidents of Mao, Poumai, Maram, Thangal, and Zeliangrong attended the programme.
The resource persons including Bipin Singh, EE, Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) Senapati; Y Nonibala Devi, Ex-State Project Officer, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), Dr.Pfokreho Pfoze, Sr.
M.O District Hospital Senapati, Ms.P.S.Khoru spoke on various prevailing issues of Sanitation Management, Women's role in Sanitation Management, Disease Control and Women's Health during the technical session.
A team of four members from the Tribal Research Institute headed by KH Bijoy Singh, APS to Tribal Research Institute (TRI) and Public Health Engineering Department with a team of five members were also present during the workshop.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner PK Jha expressed his joy for the workshop and being organized by the SDWA.
He said that "sanitation management and disease control, the two different terms are two faces of the same coin" .
He also stated that sanitation have direct implication on the diseases control.
The Chief Guest maintained that "basically the government is responsible for sanitation but cannot be achieved and attained without the active participation of the society and the individual" .
The president of the ceremony, ML Markson, President NPO also addressed the delegates and congratulated the Chairperson of SDWA A Lolia and her colleagues for picking such a relevant topic for the workshop.
He mentioned that "a workshop such as this is a response to the societal needs of the time", further, welcomed the resource persons in sharing their expertise in the concern field in identifying the strength and limitations within the district to be addressed.
Perhaps "sanitation and disease control could be mapped out into priorities and tackle them one on one" .
The president concluded with a quote, "health is wealth" and therefore as sanitation has a direct relation with the health of the people it is a pivotal issue to be addressed.
He also expressed gratitude towards the Tribal Research Institute for sponsoring the workshop and welcome more programmes in near future.
