Imphal, June 21 2015 :
All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has said that the student body will impose ban on all forms of gambling melas from June 26 if the State Government fails to close these fairs by June 25 .
In a statement, the student body said that certain groups of people are using the names of different organisations in seeking permission from the Deputy Commissioners concerned to organise these fairs.
Once they get permission from the DCs, the groups introduce many gambling items, which were not mentioned in their application, the statement said.
It further said that these groups lure meira paibi bodies and local clubs with the promise of donating huge money to their organisations.
Many such gambling melas are being held at different localities across the State, the student body said and added that these fairs have proved to be home-wreckers to many as they have shelled out huge money while trying luck in these gambling items.
As such, AMSU urged the general public to extend co-operation in bringing an end to gambling.
