Imphal, June 21 2015 :
Congress MLA K Ranjit criticized the Modi Government on Sunday for withdrawing the special category status from the North East.
The BJP is promising a lot for the NE and doing bad things by cutting development fund for the financially backward States of the region, the Sugnu constituency MLA said while addressing a political conference at Bashikhong Loumanbi Mapal in Imphal East.
The political conference intended to drum up support for former minister of Thongju constituency Bijoy Koijam who is expected to contest the upcoming by-poll in the constituency on Congress ticket.
The Thongju seat has been left vacant after its MLA Thongam Biswajit was disqualified recently.
The former Works Minister said in the absence of special category status both the State and Central Governments are required to sponsor 50 percent each in every development scheme.
He said the States of the region suffered financially even when they had to bear only 10 percent in the funding under the special category status.
Commenting on the real agenda of the Nagaland-based Naga People's Party (NPF), Ranjit said the partnership of the BJP and NPF calls for serious scrutiny taking into consideration the Indo-Naga peace process.
He said former Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio of NPF willingly gave up the Chief Minister's post and became an MP, adding that on the other hand the Narendra Modi Government has assured a peace deal with NSCN (IM) within a few months' time.
Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism M Prithiviraj was also present during the political conference of Congress party.
He disapproved of the one-year-old Modi Government for allegedly failing to fulfill its promises.
MLA T Mangibabu and Bijoy Koijam also attended the event.
