State joins in observing Intl Yoga Day

Manipur joined in the world wide celebration of the first International Day of Yoga with great enthusiasm today.
Directorate of Ayush and State Health Mission Society jointly observed the occasion at the Indian Medical Association hall, Lamphel.
Attending as chief guest Health and Family Welfare Minister Phungzathang Tonsing said Yoga is an effective practice that could promote not only healthy living but also mould one's behaviour and manner.
A form of physical, mental, and spiritual practice, Yoga is an invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition.
The practice of Yoga embodies unity of mind, body, religion, gender and caste.
It is an ancient exercise that means spiritual discipline to those who desire inner peace.
It is a holistic approach to health and well-being, Phungzathang asserted.
Chief Secretary PC Lamkunga, Health and Family Welfare and Ayush Principal Secretary Dr K Suresh Babu, Family Welfare Director Dr K Rajo and Ayush Director Dr K Lokendro were also present at the occasion.

Yoga demonstration along with a rally was conducted as part of the occasion.
Resource Centre for Social Welfare and Community Development (RC-SWACD), Manipur conducted a month long free Yoga camps at Charhajare community hall, Sadar Hills, Senapati district and Ganesh market hall, Kanglatongbi bazar from May 21 to June 20 as part of the observation.
The centre also observed the main event at Charhajare community hall, Sadar Hills, Senapati district participated by about 500 people today.
IFCD Minister Ngamthang Haokip, All Manipur Gorkha Welfare Union president Ran Bahadur Capagain, Kanglatongbi Bazar Board Committee chairman AB Shangshibou, Kh Rajen, Basudev Singh and K Krishna Das attended the celebration as chief guest, president and guests of honour.
As in other parts of the globe, Patanjali Yoga Samiti, Manipur today observed International Yoga Day at Khuman Lampak main stadium.
More than 1500 yoga enthusiasts from 60 different centres of Patanjali Yoga Samiti participated in the observation.
The Samiti, which is being run under the aegis of Yog Rishi Swami Ramevaji Maharaj, is said to be the largest yoga organization in the State having over 127 yoga centres in different districts.
Meanwhile, Art of Living (AOL), Imphal Centre also observed International Yoga Day for the jail inmates of Central Jail, Sajiwa and Central Jail, Imphal.
Art of Living is currently engaged in stress-management and service initiatives of jail inmates.
Nehru Yuva Kendras of Imphal East and Bishnupur also observed the event at Panchayat Bhawan, Porompat and Yangoiningthou community hall, Bishnupur bazar respectively on the theme 'Yoga for harmony and peace' .
The first International Day of Yoga was observed at 18 different venues spread all over the State by cadets of National Cadet Corps (NCC) under the aegis of NCC Group headquarters, Imphal and North Eastern Region Directorate.
Red Shield Division conducted a yoga session for all ranks and families of the military division from 7am to 7.30am on the occasion of the first International Day of Yoga today.
Similar observation was seen at the 86 battalion, CRPF, Lamphelpat, Imphal, ICAR, Manipur Centre, the Yoga Physique Institute and Studies, Manipur, Royal Academy of Law Oinam.
Moirang College also observed the day at its indoor stadium.
The observation was joined 30 invitees, 384 NCC cadets of Moirang College, Moirnag Multi-purpose Higher Secondary School, Moirang Mukta High School and Moirang High School.
Moreh College has also observed the first International Yoga Day at the college premises and was aprticipated by students, teaching and non-teaching satff.
The event was a huge success with eager and enthusiastic participation of the Army personnel and it concluded on a high note displaying the benefits of yoga to win over all health challenges in life, said a press release issued by PIB (DW).
The Department of Physical Education and Sports Science and National Service Scheme also observed the sat at Dr Kamal Indoor Hall, MU today.
The day was also observed at Mela Lampak High School and RK Primary School, Nimgomthong Kitna Panung, Imphal East as well as at SAI, NERC, Imphal with its Director Francis Marwin.
