Imphal, February 20 2023: Chief Minister N Biren Singh has categorically stated that students must not pursue their studies only with an eye on decent Government jobs but concentrate on expanding their knowledge and understanding.

The Chief Minister made the remark during a flagging off ceremony of 30 IIIT Manipur students for Maharashtra from CM's Secretariat at Babupara under Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat�Yuva Sangam, today.

At the function, the Chief Minister continued that the maximum number of students and parents focusing only on getting Government jobs is one of the factors which impede quality education.

N Biren also said that a person can lead a successful life even without becoming a Government employee if he or she is talented or knowledgeable and can become a job provider.

Saying that a provision to promote technical education has been added in the Budget, the Chief Minister said that a coaching class will be launched for those who want to pursue technical education.

He further stated that a College Fagathansi Mission will also be launched soon and take up initiative to solve the problem of teachers and infrastructure shortage.

Saying that Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat was implemented to build a strong India by enhancing interaction between people of diverse cultures living in different States, the Chief Minister appealed to the students heading for Maharashtra to demonstrate the beauty of 'our discipline, tradition and culture' .

He also advised the students to never discard litter but dump the leftovers in dustbins during their tour.

Saying that people have started spitting smokeless tobacco products at tourist spots at Marjing and Ethnic Park which were inaugurated only recently, N Biren appealed to all to refrain from spoiling the image of such places and keep the places neat.

The G20 delegates who came to Manipur applauded 'our hospitality' and were inspired by the tourist spots, historical sites and nature and it is a matter of pride 'for us', he added.

Education Minister Thounaojam Basanta Kumar also attended the programme and he appealed to the students to show the positive image of Manipur during their stay in Maharashtra.

He further appealed to the students to inform the natives of Maharashtra about the developmental programmes being taken up under the Chief Minister in Manipur.

Basanta Kumar went on to state that Manipur is one of the leading States which is working on educational reform under National Education Policy (NEP) .

Union Minister of State for Education and External Affairs Dr RK Ranjan and Director of IIIT Manipur Prof Krishnan Baskar also attended the programme.
