Imphal, July 29 2022:
City police on Thursday registered an FIR against Bharatiya Janata Yuba Morcha (BJYM) Manipur president Barish Sharma and 5 others in connection with the attack carried out at Congress Bhawan, BT Road.
BJYM is the youth wing of the ruling BJP.
MPCC general secretary S Jeeten Singh had filed a complaint to City PS against BJYM Manipur president Manoharmayum Barish Sharma, Ro-barth Oinam, Suraj Waikhom, Tomthin Moirangcha, Bimol Moirangthem and Dexter Gurumayum and others.
Based on the complaint, City Police had taken up an FIR no 80(07)2022 on charges of rioting, unlawful assembly, criminal trespass, and criminal intimidation with common intention.
Immediately after the incident, the Congress workers congregated and marched towards Imphal city police station to register an FIR.
"We are giving 24 hours to Imphal City Police for registration of FIR against those who attacked Congress Bhawan in Imphal.
If FIR is not registered by police, we will move the High Court of Manipur," MPCC leader Bhupenda Meitei had said on Thursday.
A video of the incident has also gone viral in the social media, in which the BJP youth members were seen shouting and threatening Manipur Congress workers.
In the complaint, the Congress stated that the BJP youth wing workers led by its president M Barish Sharma came in a violent manner and forcibly entered the official premise of Congress Bhawan in Imphal.
It also alleged that the BJYM activists made an attempt to burn down the Congress office in Imphal.
They also attacked and threatened the state security personnel, who were on duty guarding the Congress party's office, thereby interfering and hampering the official duty of state government armed personnel deployed at Congress Bhawan, the Congress alleged.
On the other hand, BJYM Manipur president in-charge Moirangthem Bimol Singh has made a complaint to the same police station against Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhurury for making indecent remarks against the new President of India.
The complaint stated that BJYM volunteers had merely staged a democratic agitation against the indecent remarks but some of the INC members at Congress Bhawan, BT Road threatened their lives with sophisticated weapons.
The BJYM volunteers expressed strong dissatisfaction over the illegal activities of INC and left the area.
Bimol then urged that strict action be taken up against the INC members.
