UNMM observes Women's Day

Imphal, March 15 2015:
United NGOs Mission Manipur (UNMM)'s District Women Committee of Imphal East and Imphal West organized an observation program of International Women's Day on March 15, at Yumjao Lairembi Cummunity Hall, Keishampat Junction under the themes 'Make it Happen' and 'Repeal AFSPA' .
AMKIL's president, Ph Sakhi; social activist, Dhanabir Laishram and Kh Jibanmala; Advocate Sivananda; DM college of Arts' HOD English , Prof Dr Sheelaramani; Damdei Christain College of Motbung, associate professors, Dr Priyadarshini and M Gangte were the presidium members of the program.
Giving the keynote address, the secretary of Women Action for Development, Imphal and convener of UNMM & District Women Committee of Imphal East, Sobita Mangsatabam explained the concept of 'Make it Happen' which is implementation of decision taken for women at the 1995 conference in which representatives of 189 countries and 30,000 social activists took part.

The decisions such as girl child education, prevention of women from violence, equal pay for equal work and participation in decision making.
Coming to the real picture of women's status in our society Sobita Mangsatabam urged all women of the state to participate in its endeavour to achieve a secured environment.
She also talked about crime against women such as cyber crimes, domestic violence, rapes and suicides.
Adding on , Social Activist, Dhanabir Laishram urged all to join hands against AFSPA highlighting the difference of people killed by security forces under the AFSPA and people died of Swine Flu in india.
