Tension in Mayang Imphal, prohibitory order clamped

With tension rising in Mayang Imphal area following the death of a local man under contradictory claims, District Magistrate of Imphal West K Radhakumar has promulgated prohibitory order u/s 144 CrPC with immediate effect from late afternoon today.
The prohibitory order is said to be have been clamped in the aftermath of the law and order situation caused by the death of one Md.Habibur (30) s/o late Md.Amuba of Irong Makha Leikai.
According to one report, Md Habib was beaten to death by an irate mob after he was caught with goods stolen from the kitchen of one Yumnam Sarat (34) alias Khomei, a VDF personnel s/o Y Ningthemjao of Mayang Imphal Company Leikai early morning today.
He succumbed to the injuries at Mayang Imphal PHC where he was admitted for treatment.
However, contradicting this report, the JAC formed against the killing has contended that Md Habibur was an innocent family man who had gone to Mayang Imphal to find job.
Demanding the government to nab the culprit (s) involved in the killing within 24 hours, the JAC has also demanded to give an ex-gratia amount of Rs 5 lakh to family of the deceased, provide a suitable job to his next of kin and warned of not accepting the body until these demands are fulfilled within three days.
Md Habibur is survived by his wife, two daughters and three sons.
