CWG Glasgow medalists, participants felicitated

The State Government today feted Glasglow Commonwealth Games medal winners, participants and officials from the State at a grand reception ceremony held at Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium.
Governor VK Duggal and Chief Minister Okram Ibobi graced the glittering function as chief guest and president respectively.
PHED Minister and Manipur Olympic Association president I Hemochandra and Youth Affairs and Sports Parliamentary Secretary M Prithviraj also attended the function as guests of honour.
A scintillating band display was also performed by an Assam Rifles band party.
Addressing the function, VK Duggal said that it is a matter of pride that out of the 14 Manipuris who participated in the Commonwealth Games 2014, eight are medallists while the remaining made the people of the country and State equally proud with their efforts.
He added that after attaining Statehood and formation of sports associations, Manipur has been doing continuously very well in sports.
The club culture which is present in Manipur like in other sports developed countries has helped the growth of sports in the State, the Governor added.
He also stressed on the need to strengthen this movement further.
Chief Minister Okram Ibobi while speaking at the function said that upgradation works of Khuman Lampak Sports complex are not full swing with the Centre awarding a sum of Rs 100 crore for the said project in recognition to State's sports potential.
Youth Affairs and Sports Department is planning to replace outdated and old sports equipment by procuring International standard equipment worth rs 6 crore.
He added that it is pertinent to mention that the Centre is launching a Sports University in Manipur for which an allocation of Rs 100 crore has been earmarked in the current financial year as announced in the Union Budget.
During the function, Gold medallist Kh Sanjita Chanu (Weightlifting) was awarded with a cash prize of Rs 15 lakh, while Silver medallists Saikhom Mirabai (Weightlifting), Shushila Devi Likmabam (Judo), Laishram Devendro (Boxing), Laishram Sarita (Boxing), Kh Kothajit (Hockey) and K Chinglensana (Hockey) with Rs 10 lakh each.
Although, she was not present at the function, a cash prize of Rs 8 lakh was announced for bronze medallist Thoudam Kalpana (Cycling).
Rs 2 lakh each were also announced for the participants - Yanglem Sunita (Cyling), Pukhrambam Sushila (Hockey), Thokchom Anuradha (Hockey), Chongtham Jina (Judo) and Huidrom Sunibala (Judo).
Dr Sanasam Santikumar (Manager), N Kunjarani Devi (Coach), Ksh Tingongleima (Coach) and I Goutamani (Coach) were also awarded Rs 2 lakh each.
