Imphal, August 12, 2014:
Urging the Manipur University authority to resume the normal classes, All Manipur Students' Guardian Organisation demanded resignation of the Vice Chancellor in case the University cannot be opened within three days.
Speaking to reporters in Manipur Press Club, Organisation's Secretary, S Sumti asserted that Central Educational Institutions Amendment Act 2012 cannot be implemented in Manipur University.
Stating that since Manipur does not fall under the Sixth Scheduled States to implement the Act, S Sumati asserted that efforts made by MU Vice Chancellor to implement the system in the University which is clearly against the guidelines of the Act is unfortunate.
She added that the agitation taken up by students against the new reservation system is fair and reasonable.
Notifying the new reservation system just before the entrance tests for admission is inordinate, she added.
Condemning the use of violence, tear gas and closing of University's hostels, S Sumti alleged the Vice Chancellor for being communal and said that he must be held responsible for all the chaos.
