As observed in other parts of the world, the International Youth Day which would be celebrated for seven days was opened today at GP Women's College.
The Youth Day being observed under the theme 'Youth and Mental Health, Life is Young Shaping A Better Future with the Slogan Mental Health Matters' is being jointly organised by the Manipur State AIDS Control Society (MSACS), MU NSS Cell and GP Women's College Red Ribbon Club.
MSACS Project Director SK Chaurasia, GP Women's College Principal Y Chandrasakhi and Manipur College Principal Dr Kh Jayentakumar attended the opening function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking at the gathering, SK Chaurasia underscored the importance of guiding budding youngsters on the right path.
Although Manipur is a tiny State with a small population, HIV infection rate is alarmingly high.
To check this malady is the bounden duty of every section of the society.
Every people need to be fully aware and wary about HIV, he added.
