Kangpokpi, August 12, 2014:
Maintaining there is no room for discussion at all; All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) has demanded that the Central Educational Institution (Reservation in Admission) Amendment Act 2012 must be followed in letter and spirit by the Manipur University authority.
During a meeting held at Kuki Inn here today, the tribal student body further demanded the University authority to conduct the Admission Test as soon as possible.
ATSUM has also resolved to take up various forms of agitations, if the state Government fails to rectify various tribal related issues before August 20. While reiterating that recruitment of teachers especially for Jiribam without following any reservation norm must be cancelled, ATSUM General Secretary Marahang Ngiimai asserted that the state reservation norms should be pursued stringently to allow candidates from other districts as well.
He continued that if teachers from other districts fail to turn up in their place of posting, then the government can terminate them without any warning.
Marahang further pointed out that 10 vacant posts in the College of Nursing were filled up without any notification by Health Department on August 1 last from among the candidates who did not fulfill MCI norms.
Wondering why the government cannot conduct the recruitment at one go, Marahang observed that ATSUM has always been against the government's policy of piecemeal recruitment which resulted to loss of many ST quotas to others.
In the meantime, ATSUM maintained the state government and the police forces seem to misuse 144 CrPC.
It alleged that people in the valley can perform dharnas, sit in protest, public meetings, torch rally, etc.
while the 144 CrPC is in force, but in Ukhrul district, not even prayer for peace was allowed.
Appealing to the government to rectify and resolve the issues before August 20, ATSUM warned that the student body will be compelled to launch any form of agitations.
