Imphal, January 10 2022:
Coordinating Body of Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee Manipur (STDCM) convener L Romesh has strongly condemned the government's inability to translate into action the public demand for inclusion of Meitei/Meetei in the ST list of Indian Constitution but engaging in propaganda war to secure power.
Addressing a press conference held on Monday at STDCM office, Thangmeiband Khunthokhanbi Shanglen, L Romesh said that the Committee has been pressurising the state government to send recommendation for inclusion of Meitei/Meetei in the ST list of the Indian Constitution to relevant authority of the central government before enforcement of election code of conduct.
It is condemnable that Committee's genuine proposal has now been rendered useless and chief minister N Biren Singh has become a leader who is unable to translate his commitment into action, Romesh said, adding that the present government speaks something and does altogether a different thing.
According to Romesh, the Committee will resume its non-stop agitation for inclusion of Meitei/Meetei in the ST list of Indian Constitution despite enforcement of election code of conduct after January 15.The agitation will be in the form of street corner meeting, camera meet and awareness, he disclosed.
During the tenure of the past Congress government, the Committee launched agitations for five years but no recommendation was sent to the Central government and the present government too is reluctant to act as per the people's wish and sentiment.
The Committee believed that the present government would work as per pulse of the people and had high hope of sending the recommendation.
However, no positive action has been initiated so far despite launching different forms of agitations including total shutdown, sloganeering and storming of CM office, he added.
Romesh further said that the present government did not take up any positive action to resolve the issue despite considering the STDC's demand as genuine and it was condemnable that the government fooled the people by not sending the required recommendation before enforcement of the election code of conduct.
He then appealed to people to extend support to the committee in its further course of agitations.
