Ukhrul, January 10 2022:
The Small Town Committee (STC) under Ukhrul ADC has sought the support and cooperation of the public, especially community leaders in ensuring success of its ongoing sanitation programme in Ukhrul town.
The Ukhrul ADC administration organised 'Sanitation cum Covid-19 Awareness' programme at its Phungreitang office on Monday, which called for promotion of sanitation and beautification of the township through active participation of the public.
"It's only when the public sup port and cooperate, then we all will be able to achieve the common goal," UADC Caretaker Chairman Dr Yaronsho Ngahing said, talking to a gathering of community leaders who represented different localities of the town.
He then appealed to the community leaders to play active role and mobilise public support for the sanitation programme in their respective localities.
He continued that the administration of Ukhrul ADC, through STC, is making its best efforts to improve the town sanitation despite limited resources.
"But we won't be able to achieve the desired result without public support", he said.
Dr Ngalung said that Ukhrul ADC received the Best Town award on Cleanliness and Sanitation in 2018 .
"Such is the result of public support.
Let's continue to join hands and work together to achieve much more this year," he exhorted the gathering.
According to the ADC chief, sanitation is important for healthy living and more so in times of Covid-19 pandemic.
Speaking on the occasion ADC CEO David Kashungnao informed that the ADC administration would be providing the localities with requisite rules and regulations for implementation of sanitation programme.
He urged the community leaders to extend maximum cooperation to the efforts of the STC and said that success of the programme will largely depend on the public support.
OSD/STC Chihansing Horam highlighted the challenges being faced by the Small Town Committee in implementing the sanitation programme owing to lack of public support.
He informed that the committee is deploying more than 40 sanitation workers and three tipper trucks for the collection of waste in the town areas.
However, the efforts of the committee alone have not been able to achieve the intended result owing to lack of cooperation from the public.
The public, especially traders continued indiscriminate dumping of commercial waste in public places which has led to piling of garbage in the town areas, he lamented.
