Ukhrul, June 06 2022:
Heavy deployment of security personnel continued for second day at the disputed site on Monday after violence erupted between Choithar and Landang villages over a land dispute, leaving four people grievously injured on Sunday.
Police said that tension has subsided but can erupt anytime, necessitating to keep the site under heavy security deployment.
Personnel of Ukhrul police, along with CRPF and Manipur Rifles personnel have been deployed at the site, it said.
It may be mentioned here that the district magistrate of Ukhrul had clamped prohibitory order under Section 144 of Code of Criminal Procedure 1973 in the vicinity of the two neighbouring villages since Sunday.
It is learnt that there is a long running dispute between the two neighbouring villages over a piece of land 'Langkhan' located near the erstwhile district jail complex along the Ukhrul-Jessami highway.
Meanwhile, according to a reliable source, Tangkhul Naga Long convened a joint meeting of Tangkhul CSOs on Monday in connection with the land dispute and issued an administrative order in line with TNL Riyan Article-20 A(i) which called for immediate cessation of all forms of violence between the two sides over the matter.
The order ruled that pending final settlement of the matter by the relevant authorities, the two sides should refrain from any act of violence that may flare up similar incidents that broke out on Saturday and Sunday.
The same order was reportedly sent to the respective headmen of the two villages for information and strict compliance.
