Meitei Pangals join War on Drugs

Chief Minister N Biren Singh has said that the Meitei Pangal community has created a historic moment today by declaring unwavering support to the War against Drugs campaign.
Around 500 Imams and leaders from different Lilong based civil society organisations including 350 Imams from different Masjids submitted their support to the Chief Minister today.
N Biren, while addressing a press briefing today at the Durbar Hall, Chief Minister's Secretariat, said that the War on Drugs was initiated around June 2018, however it could not gain much momentum in the initial days.
"We have witnessed much development and support from various stakeholders, CSOs etc in recent times", he added.
The campaign has garnered much support lately, he asserted, highlighting the voluntary support gained from almost all the communities of the hill districts in recent times against poppy plantation.
This was the beginning of a new chapter in the War on Drugs, he said.
The Chief Minister further assured the opening of a rehabilitation centre at Lilong once a suitable land is identified and made available.
He also called for a united fight against drugs and to eradicate illegal drugs from Manipur.
Lilong AC MLA Mohd Abdul Nasir, Keirao AC MLA L Rameshwor Meetei, a number of Imams and community leaders were also present during the press briefing.
The Imams also read out several resolutions taken during a meeting of Imams against drug abuse and drug trafficking.
They also urged the Chief Minister to set up a rehabilitation centre at Lilong and organize discussion programmes on the War on Drugs.
